How to activate a Ubisoft Connect key on PC

To activate a Ubisoft key, open Ubisoft Connect on your PC and sign in, select your profile in the top-left corner, choose Key/Code Activation, enter the key and select Activate. The game is added to your Ubisoft Connect library, ready to download and install, and stays linked to the Ubisoft account you activated it on.

In short

Select your profile (top left) and choose Key/Code Activation.

What you need before you activate

The right Ubisoft account, signed in. Ubisoft links the game or content to the Ubisoft account you activate it on, and it stays there. If you have more than one account, check which one is signed in first.
Ubisoft Connect on a Windows PC. Ubisoft's activation steps are for the Ubisoft Connect PC app, which is also where you download, install and launch the game.
The key exactly as written. Ubisoft keys have 16 or 19 characters in groups split by dashes (AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD or AAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEE). Ubisoft asks you to enter them in capital letters with the dashes. Copying the key from your Gameplug order is the safest way.
Care with retries. Several failed activation attempts temporarily block you from activating keys, so check the key and the account before you try again.
The base game for DLC. Downloadable content becomes available inside the game, so the base game must be on the same Ubisoft account.
A key for your region. Some Ubisoft keys only work in the region they were made for (see the region section below). The region is in the product name and on the product page before you pay.
Your sign-in verification, if you have turned on two-step verification for your Ubisoft account: Ubisoft Connect may ask for a code when you sign in on a new PC.

How to activate a Ubisoft key, step by step

Ubisoft Connect keys are activated in the Ubisoft Connect PC app or in its overlay inside a game. Steam and Epic versions of Ubisoft games work differently: see their tabs.

Activate a key in the Ubisoft Connect PC app

Step 1: Open Ubisoft Connect on your PC and sign in to your Ubisoft account.
Step 2: Select your profile in the top-left corner of the app and choose Key/Code Activation.

Ubisoft key regions: will the key work for me?

Ubisoft keys can be region-locked. When a key was made for another region, Ubisoft Connect shows "This key is not valid in your region", and Ubisoft's advice is to get a refund or a version for your region from the seller. Every Ubisoft key on Gameplug shows its region in the product name and on its product page before you pay.

Global keys are meant to activate in any region.
Regional keys are marked, for example, US, EU, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) or ROW (rest of world). They are meant for players in that region, so pick the one for the region you live in.
The platform matters as much as the region. A Ubisoft Connect key activates in Ubisoft Connect; a Steam or Epic version of a Ubisoft game is activated on that store and then linked to your Ubisoft account.

Ubisoft activation errors and how to fix them

Most refused keys come down to a typo, the wrong account or the wrong region. Find the message you see below.

"This CD Key or Activation Code is not valid"
Why:Usually a typo, or the key was entered in the wrong format.
Fix:Copy the key straight from your Gameplug order. It should have 16 or 19 characters with dashes, in capital letters. Check it is a Ubisoft Connect key and not a Steam key. If it still fails, contact our support with your order number.
"CD Key or Activation Code already in use"
Why:Keys and content codes can only be redeemed once. It may already be on another Ubisoft account of yours.
Fix:Sign in to any other Ubisoft account you use and check its library. If the game is on none of them, contact our support with your order number.
"This key is not valid in your region"
Why:The key was made for a different region than yours.
Fix:Do not keep retrying. Contact our support with your order number and we will look at the region with you.
"Banned key or activation code"
Why:Ubisoft has disabled the key.
Fix:Contact our support with your order number. Codes confirmed as faulty or invalid are replaced or refunded.
You cannot activate any key for a while after several tries
Why:Ubisoft temporarily blocks activation after multiple failed attempts.
Fix:Wait before trying again, then paste the key from your order instead of typing it, and check you are on the right account.

After you activate: where to find your game

Games appear in your Ubisoft Connect library. You still need to download and install them before you can play.
DLC and in-game content become available inside the game once the base game is installed on the same account.
Steam and Epic versions stay in your Steam or Epic library. Launch them from there with the Ubisoft account you linked.

The game or content stays linked to the Ubisoft account you activated it on, which is why it matters to check the account before you activate.

How do I activate a key in Ubisoft Connect?

Is a Uplay key the same as a Ubisoft Connect key?

Yes. Uplay was the former name of Ubisoft Connect, so a key sold as a Uplay key is activated in Ubisoft Connect in the same way.

Can I activate a Ubisoft key in a browser or on my phone?

Ubisoft's activation steps are for the Ubisoft Connect PC app and its overlay inside a game, so use Ubisoft Connect on a Windows PC.

Enter your key in the Activate Product field and select Activate.

Step 4: Depending on the key, Ubisoft Connect may ask you to choose a product and a platform to activate it on. Pick the ones that match what you bought.

Step 5: The game now appears in your Ubisoft Connect library. Open it there to download and install it. Downloadable content becomes available inside the game.

Activate a key from the Ubisoft Connect overlay

Already playing a Ubisoft game? You can activate a key without closing it.

Step 1: Open the Ubisoft Connect overlay while the game is running.
Step 2: Choose Key/Code Activation, enter the key in the Activate Product field and select Activate.
Step 3: Content for the game you are playing becomes available in the game. A full game is added to your Ubisoft Connect library, where you download and install it.

Ubisoft games on Steam: link your Ubisoft account

If your Ubisoft game came as a Steam key, activate it on Steam, not in Ubisoft Connect (see our Steam key guide). Many Ubisoft games on Steam also need a Ubisoft account: their Steam store page says Requires 3rd-Party Account: Ubisoft Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account).

Step 1: Activate the key in Steam and install the game from your Steam library.
Step 2: Launch the game from Steam. When Ubisoft Connect asks you to sign in, use the Ubisoft account you want to keep the game on (or create one). This links that Ubisoft account to your Steam account.
Step 3: From then on, launch the game with the same Steam account and the same Ubisoft account. Ubisoft says the accounts you launch with should be the ones you bought the game with or linked.

If Ubisoft Connect asks for an activation key for a game you own on Steam, check that you are signed in to the linked Ubisoft account and that Steam is not in offline mode. For some older games, Steam shows the key under the game's cogwheel icon, then "Manage" and "CD keys".

Ubisoft games on Epic Games: link your Ubisoft account

Epic says you do not need a product key for games bought directly on the Epic Games Store. To play Ubisoft games in the Epic Games Launcher, you link a Ubisoft account to your Epic Games account.

Step 1: Redeem the Epic code first (see our Epic Games code guide) and install the game from your Epic library.
Step 2: When you start the game, sign in with the Ubisoft account you want to use, so that it is linked to your Epic Games account.
Step 3: Choose carefully: Epic says that once a Ubisoft account has been linked to an Epic Games account, it can only be linked to that same Epic Games account again. Linking it to a different one needs Ubisoft support.

Ubisoft Connect asks for an activation key for a game you own on Steam

Why:The game is usually tied to your linked Steam and Ubisoft accounts rather than to a separate key.

Fix:Sign in to Ubisoft Connect with the Ubisoft account linked to your Steam account, and make sure Steam is online. For some older games, find the key in Steam under the game's cogwheel icon, then "Manage" and "CD keys".

"This profile is already linked to another user" (Epic Games)

Why:Your Epic Games account is already linked to a different Ubisoft account.

Fix:Unlink that Ubisoft account from your Epic Games account and link the one you want to use. If your Ubisoft account was linked to a different Epic Games account before, Epic says only Ubisoft support can change it.

Do I need a Ubisoft account for a Ubisoft game on Steam?

For many games, yes. Their Steam store page says Requires 3rd-Party Account: Ubisoft Account. You link it the first time you launch the game from Steam.

Which Ubisoft account gets the game?

The one signed in to Ubisoft Connect when you activate the key. Ubisoft links the game or content to that account, so activate it on the account you want to keep it on.

My Ubisoft key does not work. What should I do?

Check that you copied the whole key with its dashes, that you are signed in to the right Ubisoft account and that the key's region fits. Do not retry many times, as Ubisoft blocks activation for a while. Then contact Gameplug support with your order number. Codes confirmed as faulty are replaced or refunded.
