What is an Xbox gift card?
Xbox gift cards are also called Xbox Live cards, Xbox codes or Microsoft gift cards. They are prepaid codes worth a fixed amount in one currency. When you redeem one, the amount is added to the balance of your Microsoft account — the same account you sign in to on your Xbox and on Windows.
Because the balance sits on the Microsoft account rather than on a console, you can redeem on an Xbox Series X|S, on an Xbox One, on a Windows PC or in a web browser, and spend it on any of them.
What you can buy with your Microsoft account balance
- Games and pre-orders from the Microsoft Store on Xbox and Windows.
- Add-ons, expansions, season passes and DLC.
- In-game currency sold through the store, such as V-Bucks, Robux, FC Points or COD Points for the Xbox versions of those games.
- Xbox Game Pass memberships, which can be paid from your balance.
An Xbox gift card is not a game key: it adds money and never unlocks a specific title by itself. If you already know which game you want, you can also buy it directly — browse Xbox games.
Xbox gift card regions: why the country matters
Microsoft gift cards are tied to a country. An Xbox gift card can only be redeemed on a Microsoft account whose country or region matches the country the card was issued for. A UK card works on a UK account, a US card on a US account, a German card on a German account. The country printed on every card on this page is the country it redeems in.
The account country also sets the currency of your balance. Microsoft limits how often an account can change country, and existing balance does not follow you to a new country, so it is much simpler to buy the card that matches the account you already use.
How to check your Microsoft account country
