What is a Steam gift card?
Steam gift cards are sold under a few names: Steam Wallet codes, Steam Wallet cards, Steam gift card codes or simply Steam cards. They all work the same way — a prepaid code worth a fixed amount in one currency. When you redeem it, the amount is added to the Steam Wallet of the account you are signed in to.
The Steam Wallet belongs to your account, not to a device. Funds you add on a PC are available in the Steam client, in the Steam store in a web browser, in the Steam mobile app and on a Steam Deck signed in to the same account.
What you can buy with Steam Wallet funds
- Games and pre-orders from the Steam store.
- DLC, expansions, soundtracks and software sold on Steam.
- Items on the Steam Community Market.
- In-game purchases in games that use Steam for payment.
A Steam Wallet code is not a game key: it adds money, it never unlocks a specific title on its own. If you already know which game you want, you can buy its key directly — browse Steam games.
Steam Wallet currencies and regions
Every Steam account has one wallet currency, and Steam sets it from the store country of the account. A Steam account in Germany holds euros, one in the UK holds pounds, one in the US holds dollars. Steam does not let you switch that currency freely, so the code you buy has to fit the wallet you already have.
The safe rule: buy a Steam Wallet code in the same currency as your Steam Wallet, and for the country or region shown on the listing. Codes that do not match the account can be refused at redemption. The currency and the region of every code are printed on each card on this page and on its product page.
How to check your Steam Wallet currency
- Open the Steam store in the client or in a browser and sign in. Your wallet balance is shown next to your account name at the top of the store, in your wallet currency.
